What's Your Blind Spot?
This week I wanted to share some learnings I have had with several clients, who’s practices are going really well, however there are some cracks starting to appear.
The misconception that practice life is always rosy, and fun is false. Of course, it goes up and down, that same as our lives. However, the key to not letting that be the demise of a practice or something that affects our bottom line is ‘self-awareness’.
It is very easy when the going is good, to take our eyes off the ball, to allow a relaxed or obsessive manner to creep in.
Staying humble and aware is the name of the game, but how do you do that?
I call it checking your blind spots. Like driving down the motorway, when you want to pull out and turn you will check your mirrors and your blind spots – hopefully!
To be even safer, you will consciously and regularly check these whether or not you want to make a manoeuvre.
The same should be true in practice and life, checking your blind spots on a regular basis can ensure your success and happiness. Here are some examples of blind spots to be checking in at regular intervals.
- New patient bookings ahead of time
- Report of findings conversions
- Patient Visit Average (to identify when people may be leaving care)
- Free time (Are you prioritising family)
- Team happiness and motivation
- Personal health and wellbeing (are you being consistent with exercise and nutrition)
- Technique and skills (are you being sloppy or delivering high class service)
This list is not exhaustive but a good starting point.
Grade each one from a 1-5. 1 being poor and never done, 5 being perfect.
Anything below a 4 is unacceptable and needs your focus NOW, that is your blind spot.
Remember it’s a long game, don’t sacrifice your longevity with sloppy self-awareness.
