Are you the master of your ship?
You are the master of your own ship, however, are you really mastering your ship or just assuming control.
It’s easy when you are a chiropractor and in a position of authority to ‘be the master of your ship’, people look up to you, respect you and value your input, opinion, and skill. The ego can be easily massaged, and a false sense of achievement reached.
But when you stop and look at yourself, do you find yourself thinking, am I really doing all I can? Am I really mastering this craft or am I just playing well and appearing the master compared to the lay person?
This theme I have touched on before, but every day it becomes more and more important. You simply must be the best, the kicker is… you’ll never be the best. That place is an illusion. To really achieve in life, you have to be constantly moving forward, constantly striving to be better. Knowing that you can always develop but you’ll never arrive.
Therefore, the journey is key, the journey has to provide the fulfilment and passion.
So, what are you doing to master your craft? What are you doing to be the best?
Here are the three main areas as a chiropractor I think you should be constantly mastering, and I mean constantly.
1. Your adjusting skills.
This is a no brianer but so often overlooked. Attend an adjustment seminars at least once a year, if not twice. Learn from those who are obsessed with being better, who run busy and successful practices. Push yourself to get uncomfortable and grow.
2. Communication.
Learning to better deliver your message and communicate will take you from under or over selling your talent to being able to effectively and calmly guide your community with authority and leadership.
3. Personal development.
In particular, knowing yourself. Know who you are, what you stand for and exactly what you want to achieve.
So stop pretending and start mastering. The world needs you to show up.
With love,
Tom
