Goal Setting V Direction and Intention
I’m all for goal setting and having specific targets to reach, however, sometimes this is not appropriate and can cause more frustration and confusion that needed.
For example, when you are about to go through a big change in your business, or start a new venture, it is great to have in mind where you are going and what you want to achieve but to be too strict on goals and time frames can occasionally set us up for failure and the last thing you want to do is hit a losing streek.
Therefore, what I think is best and a great thing to think about especially at this time of year, is think about ‘what is your general direction’ and what are the immediate steps you need to take.
Consider this, let’s imagine you have decided you want to move to France from your home just outside London. You are very keen on France but not sure where. That is your direction, France is where you want to go. But not knowing exactly where could end up being the perpetual question that stops you from actually moving.
In order to move towards your goal, you need to move!
So, what is the next step and more importantly what are consistent actions you could take to get there.
For starters you need to get to the south coast to board a ship to take you to France, you can plan that far in advance at least and set the route to get there. You could be practicing and learning your French each day to help you when you arrive.
You see there is always something that can be done and some immediate action that you can take. Consistent daily action towards and in the direction of your goals will move you in the right direction. Pursuit of happiness in the daily action will lead to fulfilment and not frustration.
So, my question to you this week is, what is the general direction you are heading in? Don’t worry of it is a little vague.
And what is the immediate action you can take now to get the ball rolling?
And then what are the small consistent daily actions you can take thereafter to keep the momentum in the right direction?
Goals are great but the journey to get there is what life is and that is where you should find your joy. Start today.
With love
