I did not expect to have surgery and be off for a MONTH..!

Well, that was an interesting weekend indeed. I will be honest with you, I did have routine surgery planned in a weeks time and was in the middle of preparing for that, BUT, I did not expect it to turn into an emergency operation with a 4 week recovery and now I am facing another 6 weeks off over the Christmas break following another operation.

LESSONS:

1. Have systems
   Systems are something I have been speaking a lot about this last quarter, essential to keep the business running. And now I am having to practice what I preach.
   If the systems were not in place, all would have fallen apart.

2. Culture and Values
   Strong team values and culture thrive when backs are against the wall. So as soon as something unexpected happens, the team default to working together to get the job done.

3. Opportunity
   In adversity always lies opportunity, when the unexpected happens, how can you use this to work in your favour?

These three things are essential, so before bad times hit, ask yourself if you have great systems, excellent values and culture?
And when it happens (and it will), what is the opportunity?

For me, I have now been gifted with more time to focus on other businesses and projects.
