It’s not easy, but life is easier because I do it.

This weekend I had a fabulous time away with my family. I hired a stunning farmhouse in the Cotswolds and invited all the family along. It was so great to see the cousins playing, and to spend time with my parents and siblings.

It got me thinking though, what is all it for? My family, probably like yours, are not like me. In fact, they think the way I live my life is a bit extreme, with a clean diet, daily exercise, and working a lot of the time.

They question every time they see my meal plate or hear that I am flying away again for another speaking trip. “Do you ever relax” is what they often ask.

So, I thought this week I would share my musings on the term ‘relax’ and what we are all doing the hard work for.

First of all, it is important to define relax. To stop and do nothing for some may be relaxing but for many, and I am sure this is you, doing nothing is fraught with anxiety about not achieving and quite frankly boring! You see I love to work, that is why I do it, I love to serve others and see the change in their lives. I love to keep healthy for my energy output and longevity for my family.

And about the weekend, the hard work I have put in over the years, means I don’t think twice about spending thousands of pounds on a weekend away to take care of the family.

The reason I say this, is not to brag or to justify myself, but it is to give you permission to choose you! Society is backward in what it considers normal and encourages us to do. Just be mediocre, don’t aspire, numb with alcohol and food.

I would suggest, deep down this is NOT what you want. You read these blogs and attend my courses because you know you want something more, you know you have a potential to do greater things, serve more people, earn more money and live an extraordinary life.

Doing uncomfortable things now, makes life so much more comfortable in the long run. No truer statement I have come across than ‘discipline equals freedom’.

I used to think that spontaneity was king, do what I want when I want. Until I realised, I did not have the health to do it or the money to make it possible. Having discipline in your life gives so many more opportunities. More time, more money, better health, chosen relationships, and meaningful work.

So, what will you choose this week?

Hard work, easy life?

Easy work, hard life?

With love,

Tom
