The Lamp Post

How often do you have conversations in your head? If you’re anything like me, it’s a constant thing. But like a lamppost, it can be a real game changer…

I heard this story recently when someone was asking ‘why bother’ with coaching? This analogy is from Michael Neill.

Imagine leaving work each day with all your wins and frustrations. And on the way home you stop at a lamppost and simply offload all your wins and frustrations. You instantly feel lighter.

Carry on your way home.

The next morning with the weight of a new day on your mind, as you walk to work you decide to stop at that same lamppost again and offload your worries. Feeling lighter again you skip on with your day.

This lamppost ritual soon becomes a habit, and each day you find yourself offloading and having conversations with the lamppost. Over the months you find more clarity of thought, more ideas, less stress.

The lamppost becomes the diffuser in your mind.

Now I’m sure we’ve all been there. Whether it’s in our own heads, to an actual lamppost or even a pet. We are having self-conversation. These are powerful.

Now what if the lamppost spoke back?

What if it was able to help you navigate your thoughts faster, achieve your dreams quicker, and avoid the upset?

That is the power of coaching.

So my simple question this week is ‘who’s your talking lamppost’?

Coaching is life changing. That’s why I have at least two coaches at any one time.

You may not be right for me, but you will be right for someone. So, ask yourself, who should I be coaching with?

With love
