What do you stand for?
With the GCC here in the UK starting to overstep their mark in how they regulate the profession of chiropractic, it is time for you to think about what it is that you stand for?
For those who are reading this outside the UK, the GCC is the regulator of chiropractic in this country with a duty to protect the public and promote the profession. However, in recent correspondence and commitments they are seeking to dictate how chiropractors practice, with a limit on our ability to serve our patients. Notably around open plan, finance packages, and GP (doctor) correspondence, to name a few.
However, this issue is not about how you practice or who does what. It is about your right to practice how you wish, with the ultimate aim to serve your patients the best you can.
I think they forget the fact that a practice simply would not exist, and would go out of business if it were not serving the patients well. Essentially solving their problems and keeping them coming back because they want to.
No one is forcing hand or harming patients. And if they do, well that is when the GCC should step in to protect the patient.
But what does this all mean to you, especially those who may not work open plan, why should we all be concerned here?
It is about our right to serve, chiropractors are not part of a medical agenda, and we do not want to be so. We are unique, marvellous, and different. We change lives each day and if we give the GCC an inch, they will take a mile.
So I ask you to consider, how do you chose to practice? How do YOU want to serve your patients. And regardless if it is what the GCC would like to see, or not, it is important to have your voice heard.
Do you remember covid? Where was our right not to wear a mask? And now people are asking for their ‘right to wear one’. Those who said ‘NO’, did not only say no so that they had the right to NOT wear a mask. But they also said no, to keep the freedom and right for everyone to choose, and now that freedom to choose goes to those who might want to wear one.
So please, read your GCC correspondence, be present on the calls and be prepared to stand for chiropractic.
As BJ said in his final writing,
“Time ALWAYS has and ALWAYS WILL perpetuate those methods which better serve mankind.
CHIROPRACTIC IS NO EXCEPTION TO THAT RULE.
Our illustrious father placed this Chiropractic trust OUR keeping, to keep it pure and not sullied or defamed.
We pass it on to you unstained, to protect as he would also have you do.
As he passed on so will we.
We admonish you to keep this principle and practice unadulterated and unmixed.
Humanity needed THEN what he gave us.
You need what we NOW give you.
Out there in those great open spaces are multitudes seeking what YOU possess.
The burdens are heavy; responsibilities are many; obligations are providential; but the satisfaction of traveling the populated highways and byways relieving suffering, prolonging lives, adding millions of years to lives of millions of suffering people, will bring forth satisfactions and glories with greater blessings than you think.
Time is of the essence.
May God flow from ABOVE-DOWN His bounteous strengths, courages, and understandings to carry on; and may your Innates receive and act on that free flow of wisdom from ABOVE-DOWN, INSIDE-OUT; for you HAVE in YOUR possession a sacred trust. Guard it well.” — B.J. Palmer
