Who are you?
Have you made a positive and purposeful statement about who you are? Or are you just showing up and going through the motions of life?
It is important to be intentional, especially when in the service of others. People come to you because in some way or other they are broken; mentally, physically, or, spiritually.
And your job as a chiropractor is to facilitate their healing.
But by proximity of our work it is hard not to take on the broken energy. Just like watching the news everyday, eventually you’ll believe the world is a bad place. Have you ever noticed the difference in those who don’t watch the news? So much happier!
The Buddhist monks have a tradition of ‘putting their armour on’ first thing in the day, before they go out and serve others.
They do this because they know they will be challenged and that if they don’t build themselves up first, the influence of the world outside will break them down.
So how can you put your armour on each day?
Start with a positive ‘I AM’ statement that you hold to be the truth for you. Now you might not fully embrace or embody it yet, but this I am needs to be about the person you want to show up as, who you want to be know for.
There are three components to your statement.
Your name
Your values
Your service/giving/direction
Well this is a given, it’s how people know you, but it’s not YOU.
Think of 5 things that you LOVE to spend time doing. Anything goes, just write them down.
Now ask yourself why you like to do those things, what does it make you feel? For example example, you might love to walk in nature, this makes you feel ‘free’. One of your values therefore is ‘freedom’.
From these 5 ‘feelings’ pick your top values
How do you give to the world, how do you want to give to the world? Many of you as chiropractors give to inspire and help others attain true health.
Once you have these three components you can now make a statement that is sure and strong for yourself, something like this:
My name is Tom Waller. I am a man of integrity, purpose, and love. I am a free man helping others to achieve their greatness. I walk in the likeness and image of God and the example of Christ.
I know my faith part at the end may perturb some of you, you can choose to skip that, but take the time to make your commitment, your statement. And then say this loud to yourself as you begin your day.
Put your armour on first and serve.
With love
Tom
