Courage

Feel the fear and do it anyway. Not recklessly, not without preservation of self but if something you think of doing draws you but also scares you a little, that is exactly what you must do.

Things are going well now for the majority of you, life is back to relative calmness, practice is ticking along, business is doing well… and that always concerns me!

For two reasons. Firstly, have you taken your foot off the gas and started the process of slowing down? Or have you failed to check your blind spots for what might be coming?

There is a great book by Tilman Fertitta called ‘Shut up and Listen’. Tilman is a billionaire businessman and one of the lessons in his book is that hard times are always coming and those who fail are the ones who forget this and become complacent in the good times.

It is the good times that are the times to do the hard work! Now that might sound counter intuitive after all you set up your business to work hard and enjoy the good times. However, when you own your business you know, or you will come to know soon, it never stops. Understanding where you find your joy is the key.

Do you get a kick out of separating yourself from everyone else, by achieving more? Do you get your kick out of helping more and more people to live better lives? Or do you get your kick out of the ‘notoriety’ or success. If it is the latter, then entrepreneurship maybe is not for you?

If it is the two aforementioned, then you are in the right place. And the reason I say feel the fear and do it anyway, is that I want you to take an honest look at your business, where you are and what is potentially coming. While times are good it is the time to do great things, new things, scary things, make the changes to advance and move forward.

So, my hanging question I will leave you with this week is; “what are you going to do, where are you going to find some courage?”

With love,

Tom
