I’m in the wrong room!
So, you didn’t get a blog from me last Wednesday, the reason being, I was in the wrong room. I had been invited to a meeting at The Homegrown Club in London by a good friend of mine who was putting on an intimate event for entrepreneurs and business people.
The list of names and bios was passed out a few days prior to the event and on reading I began to think to myself, ‘why have I got an invite’?
Through respect to the room I will not mention names but there were big tech investors, ex pro footballers, aspiring entrepreneurs and CEOs of multimillion pound companies. I was impressed to say the least.
I thought about it for a while and reached out to my coach who simply said; “Tom you are in the right room”.
We have all heard the saying, if you are the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room! I had an opportunity here to become very uncomfortable and learn.
Here are my Top Three lessons from being in the right room!
1. Quality of the questions
It was remarkable, there were two interview style presentations on the day with Q+A afterwards. Many people asked question and it was apparent that each question was well thought out and specific to the talk.
Even during the mingling that happened, when I asked questions of some of the notable people in the room, they answered with fantastic questions themselves.
This helped me realise and understand, the quality of the questions is key to success.
2. Looking for ways to help
Every business in the room doing multiple million-pound turnover, and there were plenty, were all focused on solving a problem and looking for ways to help.
They were focused on what they could provide, not what they could gain.
This helped me to further see the importance of service first.
3. Take the chance
Risk is a part of business, follow your heart and intuition and ultimately if you are going to succeed, you have to take the risk.
This is something I love, and obviously the risk is calculated but at some point you have to believe in yourself enough to take the leap.
I would challenge you this week to see how you might take these three simple, but very effective steps to improve your life and implement into your business.
I would love to hear what you think!
With love
Tom
