Leaders lead, they don’t push
We are fast approaching that time of year where many take their foot off the gas and coast into Christmas, this is true for the public’s health choices as well as company’s work input and productivity.
And, particularly important for you as you lead a team and lead your practice members. For they too will be lapsing on their good and healthy habits in the ‘spirit’ of Christmas and your team may start to coast and drop their standards in the lead up to the holidays.
So what can you do?
One of my coaches, Ed Mylett, said something a while ago that really stuck with me. “Most things in life are caught, not taught”.
What did he mean by that?
Well, most people wont really listen to what you say or tell them, they will be watching you and learning from your habits and actions.
Therefore, as we move into the festive season and people start to take their foot off the gas, ask yourself the question, ‘are you keeping the pedal down’? Are you continuing to put in the work, effort, and maintaining your non negotiables for health?
Leaders lead, they lead by example and integrity. Integrity to themselves and their beliefs.
So my simple self-inspection questions for you this week are:
1. Are you maintain the healthy habits that got you to where you are today and are you staying strong in saying no to temptations?
2. Are you leading by example for your team? Are you the first in and last out? Are you partaking in the tasks you ask of and expect of your team? (One of my favourite things to show willing is to clean the loos, do the things people don’t like to.)
3. Are you thinking of new and creative ways to keep your patients and team engaged this time of year? This could be specific Christmas KPIs for your team, it could be extra workshops on nutrition and health tips for your patients.
Don’t become vanilla this time of year, you have to double down and really shine bright to keep inspiring and leading your people.
Get this right and you have created solid foundations to build upon next year.
With love,
Tom
